TMS, Ketamine, SGB & Psychiatry in Rockville, Maryland

Washington Interventional Psychiatry’s Rockville, Maryland office brings our full psychiatrist-led practice to Montgomery County: TMS, Spravato, IV ketamine, ketamine assisted therapy, SGB, and general psychiatry for adults and adolescents. The office is led by Medical Director Dr. Patricia Frischtak, a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist trained at the Mayo Clinic and Boston Children’s Hospital. For patients whose depression, anxiety, OCD, or PTSD hasn’t improved with standard treatment, we help match each person to the option that fits their history and goals, all under one practice

TMS, Ketamine & Spravato in Rockville: Which Is Right for You?

When antidepressants and therapy haven’t brought enough relief, there are several evidence-based next steps, and they work very differently.

Transcranial magnetic Stimulation (TMS) uses magnetic pulses to stimulate brain regions involved in mood. It involves no medication or sedation, and you drive yourself home. Treatment typically runs over several weeks, with accelerated schedules available for some patients. TMS is FDA-cleared for depression in adults and, as an add-on treatment, in adolescents 15 and older.

Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression, given in our office with monitoring. IV ketamine is an infusion given under medical supervision; Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) pairs ketamine with psychotherapy sessions, so that the treatment experience is integrated into ongoing therapeutic work. Use of IV ketamine and KAP for depression is off-label. All three work through a different brain system than traditional antidepressants and can act more quickly for some patients.

Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is a procedure sometimes used for PTSD symptoms; this use is off-label.]

Which option fits depends on your history, how quickly you need relief, your schedule, and your coverage. Some patients do best with one treatment, and some with a combination. Because we offer all of them under one roof, our psychiatrists can recommend what fits you rather than the one thing they happen to offer.

If you live or work in Rockville or elsewhere in Montgomery County, you don’t need to travel into DC for interventional psychiatry. Our Rockville office offers [TMS, SGB, Spravato, IV ketamine, KAP and general psychiatry] for adults[, adolescents,] and college students, with the same psychiatrist-led team as our Washington, DC practice
